The 18 Year Old is Tomatin's most refined core bottling: matured in bourbon casks and finished in oloroso sherry casks into a smooth, honey-sweet Highland malt with real depth. A bottle for quiet evenings.
Our Flavor Compass divides whisky into four flavor areas. The dot indicates where this bottle stands.
Soft & FruityFor moments of peace & relaxation

For anyone looking for a refined, smooth 18-year-old Highland malt without the high price tag of better-known brands.
An 18-year-old Highland malt need not be unaffordable, and this Tomatin proves it to me every time. I pour it on quiet evenings for people who already know a few whiskies and appreciate softness. For an anniversary or a retirement, too, this is a bottle that makes a fine impression.
That the youngest whisky in the bottle has matured for at least eighteen years in cask. For this Tomatin that happened in bourbon casks, followed by a finish in oloroso sherry casks. The long maturation gives a soft, honeyed depth, which is why it sits in Smooth & Fruity on our Flavour Compass.
The 18 YO is six years older, bottled at 46% rather than 40% ABV, and matures in bourbon casks with an oloroso finish rather than entirely in sherry casks. That makes it softer and more honeyed, while the 12 YO is rounder and spicier with more red fruit. The 18 YO is not chill-filtered.
A long time, if you store it well: upright, cool, dark and tightly closed. Whisky does not go off, but once the bottle is less than half full the air has more influence and the aroma can slowly fade. So ideally finish a bottle that is under half full within a few months.
