Amber Glass
Amber Glass makes handmade, mouth-blown whisky glasses with a distinctive, refined shape, some of them with a matching lid. Each model carries a code, such as G100, G300 and G610, and they differ in bowl, stem and capacity, from 100 to 200 ml. They are designed for whisky lovers who taste mindfully and want to experience what the shape of a glass does to aroma and flavour.

Because every glass is blown by hand, its size can vary by a few per cent; that is part of the craft. With the Amber Tasting Box and Tasting Box II you can compare two shapes side by side, and for larger tastings there is a set of six glasses. Besides whisky glasses, Amber Glass also makes handmade cocktail, gin and champagne glasses: the CG100 and CG200. Other tasting glasses can be found among our tulip-shaped whisky glasses.
Which whisky cocktails suit the Amber Glass CG100 and CG200?
The CG100 is a 170 ml coupette on a slender stem, intended for cocktails served without ice, such as a Manhattan, and equally good for champagne. The CG200 is a 600 ml copa glass with an oval bowl, made for long drinks with plenty of ice, such as a whisky highball or a gin and tonic. Both come from the Amber Glass by Karol Rybicki collection, are mouth-blown and are supplied in pairs in a satin-lined gift box.
Can Amber Glass glasses go in the dishwasher?
No, Amber Glass glasses are hand-wash only. The thin, mouth-blown glass does not cope well with the heat, detergent and knocks of a dishwasher. After use, rinse the glass with lukewarm water and perhaps a drop of mild washing-up liquid, holding it by the bowl rather than the stem. Then let it drain and dry it with a lint-free cloth.
Which Amber Glass model should you choose: G100, G300 or G600?
The difference lies in bowl shape, stem and capacity. The G100 is a compact 100 ml tulip glass with a lid; the G300 holds the same amount but has a slender, tall stem inspired by the grappa glass, so your hand does not warm the whisky. The G600 and G610 are roomier at 200 ml, and the G610 comes with a lid. Small bowls concentrate the aroma strongly; larger ones give powerful whisky more room.
What kind of glass are Amber Glass whisky glasses made from?
Soda-barium glass: a lead-free type of glass in which barium oxide takes over part of the role of lead. The result is clear glass with good light refraction, without lead. Amber Glass blows the glasses by hand, so they are thin and light in the hand and show off the colour of your whisky. Because they are handmade, each glass may vary fractionally in size.
What is the difference between the Amber Tasting Box and the Amber Tasting Set?
The Amber Tasting Box is a gift set with two different glasses with lids, the G100 with a 100 ml tulip-shaped bowl and the G201 with a 130 ml oval bowl, in a satin-lined gift box. It lets you experience how shape changes aroma. The Amber Tasting Set contains six identical 100 ml tulip glasses without lids in trade packaging, intended for bars and restaurants or for anyone who often hosts tastings at home.
