Gyrup Estate has been in the hands of the same family since 1773. In 2010, the seventh generation filled the first experimental cask with their own barley; in 2015, the eighth generation returned to Thy to turn it into a fully-fledged distillery. Since the arrival of their own pot still in 2019, everything is done in-house: growing, malting, distilling, and aging, without a single external link.
This approach — including an unusual single distillation and malt dried over their own beech wood — earned Thy Whisky the title of European Whisky of the Year in 2020, and in 2024 the recognition as the best single estate distillery in the world.
