Please note
This is a gin, not a whisky. That is why it has no place in the Flavour Compass, but it does belong to the Isle of Harris collection.

Isle of Harris Gin comes from the same "social distillery" in the Outer Hebrides as The Hearach whisky. Its signature botanical is sugar kelp, harvested locally off the coast of Harris, which gives the gin a subtle, maritime freshness alongside the classic juniper.

Gin is not our main focus, but I gladly make an exception for Isle of Harris. It comes from the same social distillery as The Hearach, and the locally harvested sugar kelp gives it a briny freshness you will not find in every gin. I serve it as a gin and tonic on a summer evening.
Sugar kelp, a type of seaweed, is the signature botanical of this gin. It is harvested locally off the coast of Harris and adds a subtle, maritime freshness. The gin does not literally taste of the sea, but the classic juniper gains a briny, fresh undertone that suits its origins in the Outer Hebrides.
Use a large glass with plenty of ice, add 4 to 5 cl of gin and top up with a neutral, not overly sweet tonic. That keeps the juniper and the maritime freshness of the sugar kelp clearly noticeable. A thin strip of citrus peel is all the garnish you need; heavily flavoured tonics overpower its subtle notes.
Because the Flavour Compass only classifies whiskies. Isle of Harris Gin is a gin at 45% ABV, not a whisky, so it has no place in the four flavour quadrants. It does belong to the Isle of Harris Distillery collection, alongside The Hearach whiskies, so you can find all of this distillery's products together.
