Compass Box is one of the most respected independent Scotch whisky blenders, founded in 2000 by John Glaser with the mission of reinventing classic Scotch whisky. Orchard House is their most approachable, fruit-led blended malt: a juicy, bright glass full of green apple and stone fruit — with no added colouring and no chill-filtration.
Our Flavor Compass divides whisky into four flavor areas. The dot indicates where this bottle stands.

Green apple. Pear. Citrus blossom.
Juicy stone fruit. Vanilla. Light honey.
Fresh. Short to medium. Lightly spiced.
When someone asks me where to start with blended malt, I often reach for this bottle. Orchard House is juicy and bright, with green apple and pear, and just as honest as it tastes: no colouring, no chill filtration. It is at its best on a spring afternoon on the terrace.
A blended malt is a mix of single malts from different distilleries, without any grain whisky. That is what sets it apart from a regular blended whisky. For Orchard House, Compass Box combines malts that together give a juicy, fruity profile, matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV.
Yes, that works well with this fresh, fruity whisky. Neat, you taste the green apple and citrus blossom best, but an ice cube makes it even more refreshing. In a highball with chilled soda water and a slice of apple or lemon, the fruit holds up nicely. That makes it well suited to warm days.
They are two extremes of Compass Box. Orchard House is fruity and smooth, with green apple, pear and vanilla, and sits in our Smooth & Fruity quadrant. The Peat Monster combines Islay smoke with Highland malts and is smoky, peppery and mineral. Both are blended malts at 46% ABV, without colouring or chill filtration.
