Cadenhead, founded in 1842 and owned by the same family as Springbank, bottled this 17-year-old from Speyside distillery GlenAllachie — known for its rich, sherry-driven style since its takeover by Billy Walker — in its Original Collection. Unfiltered and uncoloured, as is customary at Cadenhead.
Our Flavor Compass divides whisky into four flavor areas. The dot indicates where this bottle stands.

For anyone looking for a rich, sherry-driven Speyside malt from one of the most respected independent bottlers.
We have two GlenAllachies from 2008 in our range, and they differ more than you might think. This Cadenhead is the calm, rich one: sherry, dried fruit and nuts, without the oak taking over. I pour it in December, with a little bowl of figs or speculaas biscuits.
Both come from the same distillation year, but their maturation differs. This Cadenhead spent 17 years in refill sherry casks (butts) and was bottled at 46% ABV. The Duncan Taylor was finished in a small Octave cask and bottled at cask strength, making it more concentrated and woodier. This Cadenhead is the rounder, calmer of the two.
It refers to large sherry casks (butts) that have already been used for whisky before. Such a cask gives off a less pronounced sherry influence than a first-fill cask. That leaves room for GlenAllachie's own character, while red fruit, cinnamon and nuts are still clearly present.
Well over a year, provided you store it properly. Keep the bottle upright, cool and dark, with the cork firmly in place. Once the bottle is less than half full, oxidation speeds up and the sherry and fruit notes may flatten after a few months. In that case, aim to finish it within six months.
