Bøg is Thy Whisky's smoky signature expression and fully embraces the Danish tradition of beechwood smoking — normally used for meat, fish and cheese, here as the primary source of smoke in whisky. An earlier Bøg release (No. 9) was named European Whisky of the Year in the 'multiple barrels' category of Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020.

Smoky & PowerfulFor moments that should linger
Long and smoky, with a woody, lightly sweet close.
For lovers of smoky whisky who want to look beyond Islay and are curious about a unique Danish beechwood smoke.
Excellent with smoked fish, bacon or a robust smoked cheese.
Bøg is Danish for beech, and that really says it all: here the smoke comes not from peat but from beech wood. I pour it for Islay lovers who think they know it all, and watch them fall silent for a moment. A smoky whisky with an accent all of its own.
Peat smoke comes from burning peat while drying the malt, as is common on Islay. Thy uses beech wood as its smoke source instead, a Danish tradition normally used for meat, fish and cheese. That gives a woody, grilled smoke rather than the earthy or briny peat note.
An earlier release, Bøg No. 9, was named European Whisky of the Year in the 'multiple barrels' category in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020. This bottle is a later edition (2024), matured in oloroso, palo cortado and PX sherry casks and bottled at 50% ABV.
Start neat with a small sip, as at 50% ABV and with full smoke it is powerful. Then add a few drops of water; the caramel and black pepper come through better. Smoked fish, bacon or a robust smoked cheese complete the picture.
