Sakhrani is a women-led distillery from Yanbaru, Okinawa — a region so remarkable that UNESCO has granted it World Heritage status. The Kuri Edition is finished in chestnut wood, a choice you rarely come across and one that makes it immediately clear: these are people who think about what they do. The result is a warm, earthy whisky, matured in Scotland and finished in Okinawa, full of roasted nuts, dried stone fruit and a touch of spice. For those who like to pause for a moment.
Our Flavor Compass divides whisky into four flavor areas. The dot indicates where this bottle stands.

For anyone looking for something a little different who won't let a chestnut wood finish pass them by.
You rarely come across a chestnut-wood finish, and that is exactly why I wanted this bottle in our range. I reach for it in autumn, when the evenings draw in and something on the table is welcome to get a conversation going. A lovely gift for anyone who thinks they have tasted it all.
It adds a warm, earthy and nutty character. After maturing in ex-bourbon casks in Scotland, the Kuri Edition receives a chestnut-wood finish in Okinawa. Chestnut is only rarely used for whisky casks; here it brings roasted nuts and dried fruit, which is why it sits in Rich & Sweet on our Flavour Compass.
Not entirely: it is a world whisky. The base is a blended Scotch matured in Scotland; the chestnut-wood finish takes place at Sakhrani in Yanbaru, Okinawa. That is why we list both Japan (Okinawa) and Scotland as the country of origin.
Dishes with nuts, earthy notes and a touch of bitterness. Dark chocolate, a mature goat's cheese or a bowl of roasted hazelnuts all match its warm chestnut character. Pour a small measure neat so the whisky complements the food rather than overpowering it.
