Sakhrani

Sakhrani Sakura Edition — Cherry blossom, pomegranate & elegance

Sakhrani is a women-led whisky adventure from the UNESCO-listed primeval forests of Okinawa. The Sakura Edition — finished on rare Japanese cherry wood — is the most elegant of the trio. Floral, light and precise: cherry blossom, pomegranate and soft vanilla for anyone who wants to make time stand still for a moment.

Why I chose this

When someone asks me for a whisky to open an evening gently, I often point to this Sakura. The Japanese cherry wood makes it light and floral without making it thin. I love pouring it for people who say whisky is usually too heavy for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sakura Edition suitable if you are new to whisky?

Yes, it is the most approachable of the three Sakhrani editions. On our Flavour Compass it sits in Smooth & Fruity: light, floral and elegant. Do bear in mind it is 47% ABV; a few drops of water soften it for a newcomer without losing the aroma.

Which wood is used for the Sakura Edition's finish?

Japanese cherry wood. The whisky first matures in ex-bourbon casks in Scotland and is then finished in Okinawa in cherry-wood casks. That gives the floral, fruity touch that sets this edition apart from the Mizunara (Japanese oak) and the Kuri (chestnut wood).

What does 'not chill-filtered' mean for this bottle?

That the whisky was not heavily chilled and filtered before bottling. Natural oils and fatty acids are retained, giving more mouthfeel and flavour. There is hardly a downside: at most the whisky may turn slightly hazy when you add ice or cold water.
