Which engraved whisky glass suits whom?
Choose a motif that matches the recipient. For dads there are Glencairn glasses with messages such as Sláinte DAD and Dad's Fuel. Anyone with a link to a city or a trip can choose a Skyline glass, for example of Edinburgh, Islay or Dublin. Nature lovers go for the stag or the Highland cow, and sports fans will find motifs for golf, cycling, fishing or motorsport at Just Slate Company.
What is the difference between the engraved glasses from Glencairn and from Just Slate Company?
Glencairn Crystal mainly engraves its own (lead-free) crystal glasses, including the tulip-shaped Glencairn glass, which is ideal for nosing whisky neat. Just Slate Company works with wide, sturdy glasses of 250 to 300 ml, which are pleasant for a dram with an ice cube, and with small 100 ml tasting glasses. Some Just Slate glasses come with a matching slate coaster.
Can engraved whisky glasses go in the dishwasher?
It varies from glass to glass, so always check the product information. Many engraved glasses from Glencairn Crystal and Just Slate Company are dishwasher-safe, but some, such as the glass with the map of Scotland and the Ireland and England Skyline glasses, are hand wash only. Washing by hand in lukewarm water keeps an engraving clear for longest.
What do Sláinte, A Wee Dram and Water of Life mean?
They are Scottish and Gaelic expressions related to whisky. Sláinte is Gaelic for cheers. A Wee Dram means a small glass of whisky, the familiar invitation for a drink. Water of Life is the translation of the Gaelic uisge beatha, the name from which the word whisky derives. You will find these phrases engraved on individual Glencairn glasses and in the SCOTLAND sets.
Which engraved set suits an evening with friends?
Choose a set in which each glass has a different motif, so everyone knows which glass is theirs. The Glencairn SCOTLAND set of four includes the thistle ribbon, the piper, the shield and A Wee Dram; the set of six adds Spirit of Scotland and Water of Life. Just Slate Company offers sets of two and four matching glasses with motifs such as the thistle, the stag and the Forth Bridges.
