More about [title]

The hip flasks hold 177 ml, the hunting flasks 236 ml. Alongside the engraved hip flask, the Selbrae House Luxe Sets include a mini funnel and two cups in a wooden gift box. Glen Appin of Scotland offers well-known tartans such as MacLeod and Royal Stewart as well as plain Harris Tweed. Many motifs, such as the red deer and the pheasant, also appear on our coasters and whisky stones.

What is the difference between a hip flask and a hunting flask?

A hip flask is flat and compact for one person, while a hunting flask holds more and comes with cups for sharing. The hip flasks in this collection hold 177 ml and fit in an inside pocket. The hunting flasks from Glen Appin of Scotland hold 236 ml and come with four metal cups, ideal for a day's shooting, a walk with friends or an evening outdoors.

How long can you keep whisky in a hip flask?

Only keep whisky in a hip flask for a short time: a few days is fine, longer is not recommended. Because of the air in the flask and the contact with metal, the flavour can become flatter or metallic over time. So fill the flask just before you set off, finish it and rinse it after use. Your whisky is best kept in its original bottle.

How do you clean a hip flask?

Rinse a hip flask after use with warm water, optionally with a dash of lemon juice, shake well and then rinse with clean water. Preferably avoid soap, as it easily leaves a taste behind. Let the flask dry thoroughly with the cap off so it does not start to smell musty. Flasks with leather or Harris Tweed do not belong in the dishwasher and should not be submerged.

What is Harris Tweed?

Harris Tweed is a woollen cloth handwoven in the Outer Hebrides, the islands off the west coast of Scotland. The name is protected by law: only cloth woven there according to the rules may be called Harris Tweed and carry the famous Orb mark. Glen Appin of Scotland uses the cloth for its hip flasks and hunting flasks, in tartans such as MacLeod and Royal Stewart.

Which drinks are best kept out of a hip flask?

Only put neat spirits such as whisky in a hip flask, not liqueurs, cocktails, soft drinks or juices. Sugars stick to the inside and leave a taste behind, acids from fruit juice can attack the metal and carbonation builds up pressure in the closed flask. So mix a drink only after pouring it into your cup or glass.
