Tinner Bros
Tinner Bros whisky liqueur comes from Cornwall and is made by Tarquin Leadbetter, the distiller behind Tarquin's Gin. The liqueurs combine whisky with fruit, spice or nuts and are softer and sweeter than whisky itself. Here you can choose from four flavours: Wild Cherry, Blood Orange, Black Spiced and Toffee Nut.

The brand plays on Cornwall's mining history and rebellious spirit, and is delicious neat over ice, in a long drink or in a cocktail. As these are liqueurs rather than whiskies, they are deliberately left out of the M4W Flavour Compass; find out why here.

Which Tinner Bros flavour suits you?
Choose according to what else you like to drink. If you enjoy fresh citrus, go for Blood Orange; if you are after red fruit and sweet cherry, pick Wild Cherry. Black Spiced is warm and spicy with vanilla and spiced honey, and Toffee Nut is the sweetest, with roasted hazelnut, praline and caramel. If in doubt, start with Blood Orange or Wild Cherry, the most versatile in long drinks and cocktails.
Who makes Tinner Bros whisky liqueur?
Tarquin Leadbetter, the self-taught master distiller who made his name with Tarquin's Cornish Gin. Tinner Bros is made at Tarquin's headquarters on the Cornish coast. Where his gin is all about botanicals, Leadbetter set out with Tinner Bros to reinvent whisky in a playful, approachable way. The result is a range of liqueurs with its own spirited personality, separate from the gin.
Where does the name Tinner Bros come from?
Tinners were the miners who extracted tin from Cornish soil for centuries. Tinner Bros nods to that mining history and to the tale of two miner brothers who dug for tin by day and, according to the brand's legend, secretly distilled whisky by night. That rebellious character shows in the design. You can read the whole story in The legend of the Tinner Bros.
How much alcohol is in Tinner Bros whisky liqueur?
Around 22% ABV, roughly half that of an average whisky. Tarquin's lists 22% for the Wild Cherry and Toffee Nut, among others; check the label of your bottle for the exact figure. The base is whisky with bourbon notes, complemented by fruit, spice or nuts. According to the maker, the liqueurs are vegan-friendly. The lower strength makes them gentle enough to enjoy neat over ice.
How long does an opened bottle of Tinner Bros keep?
Tightly closed and stored somewhere cool and dark, an opened bottle stays enjoyable for months. Because liqueur contains less alcohol and more sugar than whisky, the fresh fruit notes do soften over time. Ideally finish an opened bottle within about a year, store it upright and keep the neck and cap clean. Served chilled from the fridge, it is especially good over ice.
