Living Souls is an independent bottler based in Glasgow, founded in 2024 by three seasoned whisky experts whose backgrounds include the Loch Lomond Group, Douglas Laing and Diageo. Their philosophy: flavour-led, small-scale Scotch that you simply open, share and enjoy — no collectors' items behind glass. This 11-year-old Laphroaig was matured entirely in refill bourbon casks.
Our Flavor Compass divides whisky into four flavor areas. The dot indicates where this bottle stands.
Smoky & PowerfulFor moments that should linger
Long, smoky and briny.
For the Islay lover looking for a pure, unfiltered Laphroaig experience from a fresh, flavour-led bottler.
Excellent with smoked oysters, mussels or a robust blue cheese.
You know Laphroaig from the distillery bottlings, but this Living Souls release shows it without an active cask masking the smoke. Briny, medicinal and honest. I pour it for Islay lovers who want to taste what the distillery sounds like when you leave out everything that does not need to be there.

Because a refill cask, already used for whisky before, gives off little wood flavour of its own. That leaves full room for Laphroaig's smoky, medicinal and briny Islay character, without vanilla or sherry overshadowing the smoke. After eleven years the result is a pure, powerful whisky at 50% ABV.
Seafood and robust cheeses. Smoked oysters, mussels or a strong blue cheese pair nicely with the iodine, smoke and underlying sweetness. At 50% ABV, taste the whisky neat first, then add a few drops of water to bring out more sweetness.
