The English Whisky Co.
This collection brings together English single malt from The English Distillery in Norfolk, the house behind the label The English Whisky Co. The Nelstrop family founded the distillery in 2006 as England's first registered whisky distillery in more than a hundred years. Here you will find two special bottles: a smoky, triple-distilled whisky at cask strength and an 11 year old single malt with a Cabernet Sauvignon finish.

The English Whisky Co. Red Range Cask Strength Smoked Triple Distilled
More about [title]
Both bottles show how freely an English distillery can work: Scottish practices meet the Irish tradition of triple distillation and casks from the wine world. They are non-chill-filtered and have no added colouring.

Is The English Whisky Co. the same as The English Distillery?
Yes. The English Whisky Co. is the name under which the Norfolk distillery was long known, and you will still see it on many bottles. Today the company presents itself as The English Distillery. It is the same Nelstrop family business, based in Roudham in Norfolk, which began distilling in 2006. The distillery itself was long known as St George's Distillery.
What makes a smoky, triple-distilled whisky special?
The fact that these two techniques rarely go together. Triple distillation is typically Irish and makes the spirit lighter and softer, while peat smoke adds power. The Red Range Cask Strength Smoked Triple Distilled combines that gentle base with bold smoke and is bottled undiluted at cask strength, around 58% ABV depending on the batch. Feel free to add a few drops of water to find the fruit and vanilla beneath the smoke.
What does a Cabernet Sauvignon cask bring to English whisky?
Red fruit, a soft tannic structure and often a warm, reddish glow. The 11 year old unpeated single malt first matured in ex-bourbon casks and was then finished in casks that held Portuguese Cabernet Sauvignon. That brings berries and gentle spice on top of vanilla and honey. It is bottled at 46% ABV, without colouring or chill filtration, and pairs nicely with mature cheese or dark chocolate.
Which awards has The English Distillery won?
The most important are two world titles at the World Whiskies Awards. In 2024 The English Sherry Cask was named World's Best Single Malt, and in 2026 The English Gently Smoked Sherry Hogshead won World's Best Single Malt in the Small Batch category. Those bottles are not part of this collection, but they show the level the distillery achieves. Read the story in our article.
