Sakhrani

Sakhrani Mizunara Edition — Incense, sandalwood & meditation in a glass

Sakhrani is a women-led whisky adventure from the UNESCO-listed primeval forests of Yanbaru, Okinawa. The Mizunara Edition — finished in rare Japanese oak — is the deepest and most meditative of the trio. Warm spice, incense and sandalwood for those who seek stillness. This is whisky for those who let the moment settle.

Why I chose this

I only pour this bottle once the house has gone quiet. The Japanese Mizunara oak gives it an aroma that reminds me more of a temple than a distillery. For anyone who turns a glass of whisky into a calm ritual, this is the deepest of the Sakhrani trio.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Mizunara finish add to this Sakhrani?

An exotic, resinous depth. The whisky first matures in ex-bourbon casks in Scotland and is then finished in Okinawa in Mizunara, a rare Japanese oak species. That wood brings warm spice and a long, calming finish, making this the deepest of the three Sakhrani editions.

How does the Mizunara Edition differ from the Kuri and the Sakura?

Only in the wood used for the finish. All three are based on a blended Scotch matured in Scotland, bottled at 47% ABV with no age statement, not chill-filtered and with no colouring. Mizunara (Japanese oak) is the deepest, Kuri (chestnut wood) the warmest and nuttiest, Sakura (cherry wood) the lightest and most floral.

How is the Mizunara Edition best enjoyed?

Neat, at room temperature, in a tulip glass. Let it rest for a few minutes so the aroma can open up. At 47% ABV you can then add a few drops of water. Because it is not chill-filtered, it may turn slightly hazy with ice or water; that is perfectly normal.
